Recently one of our readers "Xixn" asked us when an app called Viber was going to come out for Windows Phone. We didn't know the answer offhand, so we contacted Viber to see what they said. Windows Phone Daily has now learned that Viber for Windows Phone is indeed heading our way and soon! Here's the statement we received from the company:
"Viber is presently developing applications for PC, Blackberry, Badas, and winOS."
Yeah we know they called it winOS but they did clarify that it was Windows Phone 7 that they were talking about (and it's not a bad nickname actually!). Furthermore we've learned that Viber expects to release the app "within the following couple of months", which means you'll be able to freely call and text friends and loved ones on Android and iOS very soon.
Look we're just as excited about Skype as the next guy, but there are a ton of great VoIP services out there and Viber is one of them. Unlike other online calling solutions, Viber started life as a deeply integrated iPhone app that offered free calling over Wi-Fi and 3G as well as free text messages as long as your contact is also a part of Viber. Fortunately Viber works very seamlessly because there's absolutely no login info -- all you need is a phone number and your Viber account is tied directly to it. Easy, quick, and full of features. Not a bad addition at all to the Windows Phone app family, if we do say so ourselves!
