No, Hell hasn't frozen over, and yes, your eyeglass prescription is perfectly fine. LazyWorm Apps' acclaimed YouTube app Metrotube is back, baby, and it's here to stay.

In a letter published to their website, LazyWorm explained why their prized project left in the first place as well as their reasons for reviving the highly-demanded app. Here's an excerpt:

Our goal from the very beginning was to deliver a rich YouTube experience that could be officially promoted by Microsoft (or Google). It was for this reason that we never supported features such as video download or the playback of non-mobile content and why we have spent the past 7 months investigating alternative avenues of delivering the same rich experience via official means.

We were truly hopeful that we could resolve these issues however it has gotten to the stage where we've exhausted all of our options. Essentially, we have done everything in our power to go through official channels without any luck. We don't want to see the project that has consumed a year and half of our lives go to waste like this and so we've decided to re-launch Metrotube for free.

We reviewed Metrotube when it was release, and it remains the only app we've given a perfect score to. The same great features remain: a gorgeous Metro interface, 720p HD video support, the ability to pin multiple tiles to the Start page, fantastic playlist support, and more.

Granted, there were a few bugs here or there but some of the ones we noticed back then have been squashed in this new release, which is now version 3.1. (We've checked in with LazyWorm for a changelog.) Best of all, Metrotube is now totally free with no ads so go ahead and pick it up from the Marketplace by clicking on the links below, or by scanning the QR code to the right with Bing Vision.

Update: We've just learned from LazyWorm Apps that version 3.1 does include the routine bug fixes we expected. However, they also wanted to let people know that YouTube has changed the way low-quality videos work on their end so "the app may experience issues under that setting". We just tried playing a 240p video with the app, and sure enough we were immediately greeted by an error code. However, LazyWorm is already on top of it and will be issuing a fix soon.
