Windows 8 is a landmark product for Microsoft in a number of ways, and now it's special in yet another way: the price. Microsoft just announced that its Windows 8 Pro upgrade is only going to cost $39.99 as a download from Microsoft's website. That's an incredible price that follows the precedent set by Apple's OS X upgrades, which have also been very affordable with download-only options. Unlike Apple though, Microsoft's upgrade discount will only last until January 31, 2013 and a physical copy of the disc will retail for more, at $69.99.
