Yesterday I teased that I had found what could have been the greatest game for Windows Phone ever. I may have been exaggerating, but the game will be especially fun if you ever daydreamed about being Godzilla and wreaking havoc on a city with your 30 foot wide feet...and really, who hasn't? You feel exactly that sensation when you play Endless Robot Street by Christian Prescott.
The game is freshly submitted into the Marketplace, and I spotted it while browsing the new games section. As the title alludes to, you play as a gigantic robot leg and you progress through a city street to smash stuff. It just so happens that this street is endless, and as you continue to get further along more and more stomp-able objects come into your trajectory. Whether it's fleeing civilians, cars, buses, helicopters or even buildings, there's always something for your ginormous robot leg to crush. And it's brilliant. (Oh and it doesn't hurt that the graphics are simply gorgeous too.)
If you watched the video review above, you'd have seen that it's tough for me to really articulate why I love this game so, so much. But I've realized now that it's the feel of the game that's so satisfying. The controls are dead-simple as you control your robot leg with a swipe of the finger in any direction. While it may seem limiting at first, we found that there's a surprising amount of variation you can use to stomp on things. Those physical items are what really make the game feel great, as Endless Robot Street features an excellent physics engine that gives all of objects tangible weight as you play. It takes multiple stomps to crush bigger items like cars or buses, and it even takes a little bit of speed to destroy those elusive helicopters.
