The Nokia Lumia 900 for the United States and Canada is finally receiving its long-awaited Tango update beginning today, August 15th. In an announcement post from Nokia Conversations, the company details exactly what users can expect from the update and we think people will be pretty happy to see the list:
For US Lumia 900 customers
This update brings the following enhancements for US Lumia 900 owners:
- Flip-to-silence feature
- Camera performance enhancements
- Battery performance enhancements
- Startup sequence performance enhancements
For Canadian Lumia 900 customers
This update brings the following updates to your Lumia 900:
- Flip-to-silence feature
- Support for Contacts Share app, to send and receive business cards as text messages
- Proximity sensor performance enhancements
- Removes purple hue which affected some phones in low-light conditions
- Startup sequence performance enhancements
- Camera performance enhancements
As an added bonus, recently released Nokia apps that required Tango, like Counters and Contact Share, will finally operate on your device without any problems. We installed the update while simultaneously writing this post, and it appears there are three software updates to go through. The first is of course Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh (8773) which includes multiple MMS features and advanced SIM features. Second is the post-Tango update (8779) which "fixes an issue with app purchases in some regions" and changes the default sync times for email. The last update is Nokia's own firmware update, which happens to be the longest of the three and for which the change log can be seen above.
We're working on a hands-on feature once the update completes where we'll be testing out the camera's improvements, as well as other new revisions. Stay tuned for that, but if you've got your own Lumia 900 it's about time you updated -- just sync your phone to Zune or the Mac Connector to get started.
