Today we have quite the leaky faucet of Windows Phone 8 news, don't we? First we heard about a Samsung WP8 destined for T-Mobile, and then we heard about a pivotal launch date planned on September 30th. Now Neowin is reporting on info sent to them by a tipster, claiming that Windows Phone 8 is already in the wild.
Well, it's not like you can go somewhere and pick up a Windows Phone 8 unit. Instead, it appears as though Microsoft has already sent out Nokia-built prototypes to a handful of developers. Neowin described them as 'star' or 'VIP' developers who have had big hits so far in the Windows Phone 7.x Marketplace. Obviously, the handsets are said to be 'heavily guarded' so don't expect any leaks to happen.
While we can only report this as a rumor for now, it does remind us of the leaked WhatsApp screenshots for Windows Phone 8. The developers wouldn't have screenshots to show if they didn't have some form of the new OS to work with, now would they? We'll let you decide.
