It's easy to neglect the Nokia Lumia 820 in light of its big brother's technical prowess (and controversy). However, for Nokia the more conservative handset could be important to their bottom line and they have included a handful of innovations to help it stand out from the crowd.
A post on the official Nokia Conversations blog has uncovered (pun intended) a myriad of swappable shells Lumias 820 owners will be able to take advantage of when the device goes on sale later this year. We already know about the standard color options: glossy red, glossy yellow, glossy cyan, glossy purple, glossy white, matte gray, and matte black. For those looking forward to wireless charging, there are shells that Nokia will sell to enable that feature on the mid-range handset. All of them will have a matte finish and will come in white, yellow, black, red and cyan.
Finally, a new revelation came in the announcement of rugged Active shells. Lumia 820 owners who tend to be a little rougher with their phones can benefit from the slightly thicker casing and rubber-coated edges to prevent any serious harm to the phone. The Active shells will be offered in matte yellow, green and orange with a black TPU trim. Check out an image of the rugged Active shells after the break.
