Wait, someone else is announcing a Windows Phone? So far we've seen Samsung's high-end offering, Nokia's pair of Lumias, and this week we plan to make acquaintances a potential trio from HTC. However, for those who were paying attention at the WP Summit this past June, a fourth hardware partner was announced: Huawei.
Now Chinese Windows fansite winp.cn has learned from sources on the Sina Weibo microblogging network that Huawei is planning to announce its first Windows Phone 8 device as early as next week, on September 25th. The phone — which is going by the moniker Ascend W1 — won't look like the Ascend P1 (pictured above in our Photoshop mockup), but will still be considered a member of that high-end brand. The Ascend W1 will supposedly retail for just 2000 RMB (about $316 USD) and will come in black, white, blue, and pink. The Chinese manufacturer's first Windows Phone is expected to launch in the November/December time-frame in the United States, Europe, and China.
We had assumed the device would simply be a rehash of the seductively slim Ascend P1 S, but since this rumor claims the chassis will be entirely new we don't know what to expect. What would you love to see from Huawei with their first Windows Phone?
