30 days from today, Windows 8 will be available to the masses. It's shocking how incredibly close we are to one of Microsoft's biggest and most important product launches in its entire history. Windows 8 is a gamble, but all signs are pointing to a big pay off once October 26th rolls around.
According to Directions on Microsoft Vice President of Research, Wes Miller, 2,188 apps have been published in the Windows Store. In the United States alone, there are 1,593 apps available for download. Finally and most impressive of all, of the total apps available just 150 are meant specifically for x86/x64 Windows 8 devices while incompatible with ARM-based Windows RT devices. We did the math and that's just about 7% of all apps, which is a noteworthy stat to dispel fears of early fragmentation.
For now these numbers are unofficial, but based on other numbers before it there has been a significant uptick in the number of submissions. Recall that at the beginning of the month the total count was about 820, and then two weeks ago it had just surpassed 1,000. So in two weeks, the total number of apps available has doubled which might be even faster than the rate at which Windows Phone's app selection grew. Crazy!
