For those who don't follow tech outside of the Windows Phone realm, you may not have realized that beloved and aging search giant Yahoo! has had a behind the scenes shakeup this year with a new CEO at the helm. Marissa Mayer took the job in July and has since won quite a few fans for her refreshing practices at the struggling tech corporation. Unlike their nearest competitors however, Yahoo doesn't have its own smartphone platform to pimp out to its employees — so they've done one better.
According to a memo received by Business Insider, Mayer has put into motion a new company-wide plan called "Yahoo! Smart Phones, Smart Fun!" which will let employees scoop up a smartphone for work-related use. Yes, it is a stupid name with as many exclamation points as you'd expect from the company, but what is interesting about the story is the list of choices for employees to pick from, which actually includes a Windows Phone 8 device. Not just any device either: the Nokia Lumia 920.
Other options include Apple's iPhone 5 as well as established Android handsets like the HTC One X or the Samsung Galaxy S III. However, the fact that the company has opted to include the Lumia 920 as an option is a big win for Microsoft's enterprise ambitions with Windows Phone 8. Hopefully over time we will see more and more corporations elect to choose Windows Phone 8 over BlackBerrys and iPhones, making Microsoft's foothold in the business market that much stronger.
