Just yesterday the Windows Phone community was celebrating early pre-orders through Best Buy of the Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC Windows Phone 8X for AT&T. However, in less than 24 hours the links have been pulled and pre-orders have apparently "sold out".
We knew it was odd that a major retailer like Best Buy would begin selling phones that hadn't even been officially launched on a carrier yet, and the quiet pulling of orders has confirmed that this wasn't ready for primetime. When navigating to the original link we pointed to, none of the multiple colors of Nokia's Lumia 920 are listed. If you can find a direct link to one of the models (such as this one), it now says that the pre-order has "sold out online". Curiously, the HTC Windows Phone 8X remains listed as of this writing, and its details has gone unchanged: an 8 GB model for $99 on contract.
Our theory: AT&T's old plans may have been for pre-orders to begin on October 21st (just as rumors said) and someone at Best Buy didn't get the second memo which changed the date. So for those looking forward to an official announcement from AT&T today, the exact opposite has occurred and it's almost definite we'll be waiting until next week to hear anything concrete about Windows Phone 8 launch plans.
