It's Wednesday and do you know what that means? A new Xbox Live Game of the Week is out for Windows Phone!

This week’s new Xbox game for Windows Phone is Carcassonne by Microsoft Game Studios.

Carca-what? We were just as confused about this board game-turned-mobile game at first, but it's really quite simple. Players place down tiles onto the game board to develop an ever-changing medieval landscape. However, you cannot simply put down any tile since they must connect properly with one another. Not only that, but players must also claim these tiles by placing down their 'followers'. When the landscape of the board is complete, the game is over and whoever has claimed the most territory wins.

Board games are always ideal for Windows Phone, since they can be recreated easily with the touch screen. The Windows Phone version of the game does bring the title up to more modern standards though, since you can earn Xbox achievements, conquer leaderboards, and play online against friends. There's also an optional expansion pack, 'The River II', which promises to supply even more content.

Carcassonne is available in the Windows Phone Store for $2.99 along with the standard free trial. While it's not quite the instant relief game we're used to seeing in the Xbox library, board game aficionados should find plenty to enjoy in Carcassonne.
