It's official: Microsoftober™ is upon us.

Windows 8 is now available to download from Microsoft's website, and just about half an hour ago Microsoft Stores on the west coast began selling physical discs, Surface RT's, and other new Windows 8-powered gadgets. Microsoft had a big press gathering in New York today, as well as in several other nations around the world, to give Windows 8 its proper coming out party.

If you were in New York tonight, Times Square was temporarily nicknamed 'Tiles Square' as Windows 8 marketing took over the litany of displays in one of the most high-traffic areas in the world. Also available for sightseers and nerds throughout next week in New York is Microtropolis, a miniature Manhattan built entirely of Windows 8 devices. Anyone can go see it and try out some of the new laptops, tablets, and computers on display — it will be held at the Hudson River Park's Pier 57 until Saturday, November 3rd.

Finally after the break, feel free to check out some of Microsoft's newest videos to really kick things off with Windows 8 including some of the advertisements that will begin airing globally.
