Xbox Companion is no more, because it has been updated and replaced with the new connectivity platform hotness in town: Xbox SmartGlass.

The new app is now available to download in the Windows Phone Store. We don't know about you, but we were worried this might be a Windows Phone 8-only feature — fortunately Microsoft isn't that cruel since the app can be downloaded for Windows Phone 7.5 devices too.

In case you don't know what the hype is all about or missed the video showing off Xbox SmartGlass from the other day, we've embedded it below. Simply put, SmartGlass is an all-new 'second screen' platform for your Windows Phone to interface with your Xbox 360 console. All of the features from Xbox Companion remain the same, like the ability to remotely control your console's home screen or select content to watch/listen to.

However, SmartGlass also offers 'rich experiences' for select games, movies or TV shows. For example, Dance Central 3 uses SmartGlass to lets others queue new music to play next or purchase new songs from the music store. You can read more about the Dance Central SmartGlass app at Destructoid.

Enough jibber-jabber — it's time to start cranking tunes through your 360 from your phone! Xbox SmartGlass is available to download now by clicking on the tile/link below. Or you can scan the QR code to the right using Bing Vision on your Windows Phone. (Remember to update your Xbox 360 too!)
