Update (December 09, 2012): Microsoft claims the reference is a typo. Original article is as follows.
Before all of this Windows Phone 8 madness descended from the heavens and into our pockets, there once was a rumor of a beastly device from HTC. Not the Windows Phone 8X (which actually was predicted successfully in the same rumor), but a larger device codenamed the Zenith. For all intents and purposes, it was to be the successor to the Titan line with a 4.7-inch 720p display and a quad-core processor. On the eve of HTC's grand unveiling, the Zenith was said to be missing-in-action and until today that was the last we'd heard of the behemoth.
But has the Zenith finally resurfaced in the form of the HTC Titan III? The screenshot above received by WPCentral was taken from this month's Xbox Live Survey. Asking voters which smartphone they would be most excited to receive as a holiday gift, the Titan III sits alongside the iPhone 5, Droid RAZR Maxx HD, Galaxy S3, and of course the Lumia 920.
The question now is whether or not this was a typo or a genuine slip up. Obviously it would be easy for an intern to accidentally insert another 'I' at the end of Titan II, so odds are that is what happened. But somehow we don't think that is the case. Considering that this Titan is mentioned alongside the Windows Phone 8-powered Lumia 920 and their very cutting-edge competition, it seems like a Titan II would just not fit. In other words, why wouldn't there be mention of the brand-spankin' new Windows Phone 8X instead of a device almost no one bought from April? Something tells us whoever wrote this part of the survey had outdated information to work with. Granted, this is some pretty circumstantial speculation on our part.
Color us intrigued and looking forward to early next year more so than ever for a potential surprise from HTC.
