One of the most puzzling omissions from the Store at Windows Phone 8's launch was Spotify, an app that was still available for 7.5 devices. Apparently there were some incompatibilities and so new WP8 users were left out of the streaming fun while 7.5 users continued to enjoy using their version of the app. However, the playing field has been leveled today with the release of Spotify for Windows Phone 8.
The Windows Phone Blog announced the surprise release this morning, after months of waiting from fans. However, Microsoft is quick to point out that this is considered a Beta release, meaning it's not feature complete and users should expect to run into bugs. For the former though, it looks like users who are familiar with the 7.x app will find themselves at home in this version — it looks identical in features and layout.
As you should hopefully be aware of by now, Spotify is a streaming music service which contains one of the largest libraries of artists and albums you'll find in the world. There is free ad-supported streaming available if you are on a Windows or Mac PC, but if you want to stream on mobile you'll have to cough up $9.99 a month for Spotify Premium. Perks of the paid service include streaming on multiple devices (duh), offline music, and no pesky advertisements in between those epic Rush albums. Oh, and before you ask: the Spotify app for Windows Phone does not include the free Radio service.
Anyway, it's time to invite streaming music back into your Windows Phone device so hurry it up and download Spotify by clicking on the links or scanning the QR codes below. (P.S. If you really want to give Spotify for WP8 a shot, sign up for a free 1-month trial of Spotify Premium here.)
